Mia Muccilli

Production | Narrative Design

Hi there, nice to meet ya! I'm Mia, and I'm currently developing a deck-building adventure game with a small team of artists.I graduated from the Game Design stream of Seneca's Animation Program and George Brown's Screenwriting & Narrative Design Postgraduate Program. My most recent studio work was at Jam Filled Entertainment, where I joined the team on the Paw Patrol spinoff Rubble & Crew and the CBS holiday special Reindeer in Here!I have experience with most industry-standard software in both animation and games, including Unity, Godot, Jira, and Shotgrid, and spreadsheets make me happy.

Carpe Dino: Seize the date

I worked as the Narrative Lead on the initial prototype for Carpe Dino: Seize the Date. This included building the narrative system from scratch, mapping out the story and cast, and writing dialogue.

Narrative System

When building the narrative system, I first created this dialogue implementation guide to keep everyone on the same page across teams.

I then built out the structure of the narrative in YarnSpinner files and pushed those changes to the team's GitHub repository. With that done, the programmers could begin to implement dialogue files where needed; the actual written text of the game could then be updated without requiring any major structural changes.

Below is an example of the game dialogue written in YarnSpinner syntax. Expression changes are written to be compatible with Unity.

Schedule & Onboarding

As my time on the project drew to a close, I prepared a schedule and onboarding documentation to allow for an easy transition.

"Hatch" (In Development)

I am currently the Narrative Designer, Project Manager, and Wearer-of-Many-Hats for "Hatch", a story-driven adventure game for lovers of fantasy, tiny creatures, and a little bit of silliness.

Planning & Team Management

Resource Database

To keep everyone on the same page, I record all of our used (and promising) resources in a spreadsheet that I've organised by department.

Project Wiki

I also used Notion to put together a project wiki – easy to update, and a breeze to share with the rest of the team.

Much more coming soon!

Sundown Writers' Room

While completing the Screenwriting & Narrative Design postgraduate program at George Brown College, I was elected to lead our writers' room as we adapted the Gobelins short Sundown (2020) into a 10-episode season of television.

Note-Taking

I started by seeking out supplementary source material from the original creators' online galleries. This included confirming character, location, and prop details to allow for consistency across our scripts.Following group pitches, I organised notes on each writer's contribution into a set of documents that we could easily reference to maintain consistent characterisation throughout the season arc.

Organization & Management

I worked with the room, both as a whole and in smaller groups, to plot out a coherent season arc and assign each writer to an episode.I coordinated with faculty to plan meetings outside of our class time; first, for the room to break the story, and, later, for the ten table reads and notes sessions necessary for every writer to move onto their second draft.

Final Scripts

In the end, our mock writers' room was a success! Ten writers submitted ten scripts, and we all got to breathe happy sighs of relief.
